WHERE?

The Lees spend most of their time in Merced, California. They reside here and the hospital where Lia sought most of her treatment was here. It is in central California near San Jose. The population as of 2014 is around 81,000.

The picture to the left is of Merced Community Medical Center (MCMC). This is the primary hospital that treats Lia's epileptic status.

Hmong are orginally from Laos,  a Southeast Asian country divided by the Mekong River. It borders Vietnam, Thailand and China. The Lees sought refuge in the United States after Laos was being taken over by communist rule. The Lees and other Hmong are from the mountains of Laos.
